It is so cool at my new job! It is a new hospital addition and has all the latest and greatest and that is just after seeing a few samples of the technology.
Lifts that make a patient hover over the bed for transfers to a stretcher by just one person.
A lift that brings a fallen patient up from floor level to a stretcher level in a matter of seconds with the inflation of a mat. AND you can move that patient - up to 500 lbs - by just pulling the air mat.
Lifts that hang from the ceiling in some rooms to move patent from the bed to the chair and then back again.
Open showers for moving an entire wheelchair into the shower!
Neato beds that have foot pedals for moving the bed up and down.
Super friendly staff. And some of the best employee benefits I have seen since I worked at Baptist.
I am so loving going to work.
It doesn't seem like work when you truly enjoy what you do.
I'll keep you posted on the fun toys I get to use.
A small blog about our family living in the big city. We manage to keep ourselves busy with school and church. Throw in the occasional event and we are non-stop.

All Is Well....
What a wonderful day!
I started my new job and know I am in the right place. There were nurses there from the other surrounding hospitals and I knew then I had made the right choice. Everyone was so welcoming and kind. It is so exciting.
I also found out yesterday that I won SECOND prize from the Lumen Christi Spring Festival Raffle!! How cool is that? I'm not sure who is more thrilled, myself or Honey (Miss Graziadei) who sold me the ticket.
My children are doing their homework and NOT fighting.
"Wonerfulla', wonderfulla'!" as Lawrence Welk would say.

Agatha
"Agatha, be sealed with the Holy Spirit."
"Amen"
"Peace be with you."
"And also with you."
Amy has taken Agatha as her Confirmation name. And her sponsor - Aunt Theresa - was wonderful and called Agatha to ask her the above. Just to check and make sure the confirmante (a person who is to be confirmed) is ready for her big day.
I tried the same with my confirmante, Margaret, who is taking the name Bernadette. It didn't quite work out so well. But I flubbed in rehearsal and forgot to bow when we approached the altar.
Amy will have to explain the choice she made for Agatha. Agatha was a young girl who refused to marry at age 13/14 and for this was tortured by having her breasts removed with pincers. She was healed while imprisoned but alas, was put to death for refusing to renounce Christ.
Margaret chose Bernadette as she is the patroness of medical workers and Margaret wants to be a doctor.
Colt was perusing saints this evening and is trying to convince me that Holy Days and Observations - such as the Transfiguration can also be used as a saint's name. Sorry, Charlie, ain't gonna' happen.
If you haven't heard about the confirmation it is because we are not having a party and with 167 students the service is supposed to take about 2 1/2 hours and won't be done until 4 PM. There will be a reception afterward but again it will be crowded and we are kinda far out for most of you. So NO offense intended just our consideration for you all. We will post pictures after the event.

What is happening?
It has been a busy week one off and week two is only slightly less busy.
Last week I managed to start looking for a replacement refrigerator and freezer. We want to take advantage of the sales going on right now even if we weren't quick enough for the rebates.
I think we have it narrowed down to the final freezer and refrigerator. We will go look at the items tomorrow.
We did doctor's appointments for Colt and myself last week. I got my new employee physical and TB test done, my lab drawn and the last of the new uniforms ordered had arrived.
This weekend Amy had her big night out and we had Confirmation rehearsal Sunday after Mass and then my last CCE class was Monday night.
Today I went our to finalize the availability of the refrigerator and freezer, got thread for the hemming of the new uniforms, took Amy to get her dress for Confirmation and a dress for me.
Next to do is to take Colt back to school for his 5th grade open house elective review until 7:45 PM.
I need to get replacement shoes for my uniforms as the Skechers I had are wearing out rather quickly. I will also need to get Colt a pair of trashy sandals that he can wear until his feet gain another size in the next month.
I have enjoyed this time off and unfortunately got a cold for this last week of time off. I am really looking forward to the new job.
Now, what was I just doing??? ....... Oh, yeah, go finish cooking dinner.

WOW!!! Long time no s--hear. Yeah, hear.
Power Notes are kicking my booty again. Not really at the moment, because I started today's set last night. I hoping to stay ahead on power notes, although I'm not going to be like Alexis and get up at 2 in the morning, do power notes, and then go back to bed at four.
That's ridiculous.
So, what shall we talk about first? Boys? School? My birthday(as I'm sure you guys haven't heard much about it)? The outing tomorrow? Orchestra Banquet?
Let's go in that order.
BOYS: I've pretty much dropped Tony and he's dropped me. I never talk to him and if I send him a text, he never responds, so that's done. (Ash should be happy). I'm not really having anyone come to mind when I think "Who do I like?" I guess I'm going through one of those long stages of just flat out not liking anyone. That sounds harsh; let me clarify. I mean not liking any boys enough to want to go out with them; I have no crushes at the moment.
SCHOOL: I have all A's in everything for the first time in a long time. I HAVE A 91 IN WHAP!!!!! I'm hoping it'll last for report cards, though. We took a test yesterday, and I think I did pretty okie dokie, but I'm not sure. If I do horrible on it, my Major Grade on Power Notes should keep me pretty balanced. Nothing is screaming difficulty.
MY BIRTHDAY: Went on the retreat and got a huge cake that was shared with all with a SpongeBob candle and butterflies. I got sung to twice, once in the morning and once at night. You guys didn't really miss anything, so don't feel bad.
MY OUTING: Today is the lovely day that I will be going to Willowbrook Mall to hang with Ashley, Jason, Kim, and Matt. We had planned it for last weekend but I had to go help on the retreat, so this is my (and Jason's) birthday party of sorts. Whenever we get hungry, we're walking to Fuddrucker's and eating dinner (Ash and Kim are splitting my bill as my birthday present. Isn't that sweet?)
ORCHESTRA BANQUET: I asked Tyler if he would like to come to see his old orchestra buddies. He said he would check his schedule for May 15th and let me know. Too bad he's got his phone taken away for something he did. He doesn't have a home phone either, so I can't call him at his house to know. If worst comes to worst, he'll tell Morris and Morris will tell me. We're going to Ross to get a banquet/Confirmation dress cuz the one I have right now isn't as modest as it should be for Confirmation and I really don't wanna wear the same thing to banquet two years in a row.
Ashley says I should talk about my mom on here, so.....
HI MOMMY!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!! ASHLEY DOES TOO!!!!(wink wink)
All done, now!
Love you guys!!
That's ridiculous.

Fearful New Times
Vernon is upset and stressed (like when is he not stressed?) about this. It is a fearful thing to let the control out of his hands. I am not to hip about it either but I do understand that we have to let this happen.
We have spent 16 years watching over and protecting Amy so when she asked to go out with her friends to the mall is brought a stab of angst to our hearts.
I agreed with the qualifying statement that I will be driving her there and picking her up. She is not too happy with that but the law is the law. I am not going to let her ride in a car with a newly licensed driver. I can take her there and pick her up.
She is going to be celebrating her birthday by going out to dinner and to the mall with her friends on Saturday night. We have it all mapped out.

Amy is freaked out by the parental units going goofy about this. We have trouble remembering that she is going to leave us old folks here eventually.
Once Amy remarked that it would be okay for us to die once she finishes college. That was not the most endearing statement from her mouth. And I have to remember the context was when we were talking about death of a parent and is there ever a good time for a death.
I am sure we will get over this. I am still trying to decide if I'll wait at the mall or leave her for the 3-4 hours she desires to hang with her friends. Comments?

Wake UP!
We have a problem, Houston.
My son cannot wake up in the morning. He curently has three alarm clocks and he manages to sleep through them all.
While I want him to wake up I also wish to not wake up the neighbors with a car alarm volume.
I am off to Radio Shack to see if they can help me locate something adequate that the boy can take to A&M this summer.
Plus with me not home in the morning he has to learn to get himself up all on his own without the Mom snooze alarm - "Colt! Get up! You have ____ minutes before the bus."
Amy could provide Sister Snooze alarm features but Colt has to be able to do this without the prodding of a sibling.
Hopefully, we will get the plantar's wart off his foot on Thursday and then he has no excuse about his foot hurting or about needing to fool around with the wart.

Officially
I have accepted a position at Methodist Willowbrook effective April 26, 2010.
This will be quite a change but one we hope is for the good. I will be working THREE 12 hour shifts a week from 7PM-7AM.
That is right folks! NIGHTS!

I will be on orientation for one week on days then move to the floor for 12 hours orientation shifts on day for one week then to nights.
This kind of schedule allows me more time at home and availability to the kids during the day. It will cut into weekends and holidays but as the kids are getting older I do not need to be completely at their beck and call.
This change also increases my income to help cover other changes in our income level.
I am so sorry to be leaving some of my wonderful patients but I feel confident that they will continue to receive excellent care at Texas Oncology.
What other benefits will occur?
My vampire look will return if I maintain my disdain of the sun.
I will look sleepy at 10 am.
Hopefully, I can exercise.
If needed I can be there for Mom and PawPaw.
I can pick up the kids from school without leaving work early.
A home-cooked dinner will be ready every night (or at least that is the plan).
